2002 Dodge Stratus Key Fob Programming
Updated 2026 Programming, battery & replacement fob
You can program a 2002 Dodge Stratus key fob yourself in a few minutes using a working key or remote, no dealer visit needed. Follow the steps below, then check the battery and the correct replacement fob (with FCC ID and part number) if you need a new one.
Remote / key fob programming
On these Dodge, Chrysler, and Jeep vehicles you can reprogram remotes yourself if you already have one working remote. Try Procedure 1 first; if it doesn't work, use Procedure 2. Every remote not reprogrammed now will stop working.
Before you start
- At least one working remote
- All your remotes
- Sit inside, all doors closed, driver's seatbelt on, no one else in the vehicle
Procedure 1
- 1Put the key in the ignition and turn to ON (last stop before cranking).
- 2Press and hold UNLOCK on a working remote for 4–10 seconds.
- 3Still holding UNLOCK, press PANIC for one second, then release both together. A chime within 3 seconds confirms programming mode.
- 4Within 30 seconds, press UNLOCK on that same remote — a tone confirms it reprogrammed.
- 5Within 30 seconds, press UNLOCK on the next remote. Repeat for all remotes, including working ones.
- 6Turn the ignition off and test the remotes.
Procedure 2
- 1Put the key in the ignition and turn to ON (as far as it goes without cranking).
- 2Press and hold UNLOCK on a working remote for 4–10 seconds.
- 3Still holding UNLOCK, press PANIC for one second, then release both. A chime within 3 seconds confirms programming mode.
- 4Within 30 seconds, press LOCK and UNLOCK together on that same remote, release, then press and release UNLOCK — a chime confirms it.
- 5Within 30 seconds, repeat that LOCK+UNLOCK then UNLOCK sequence on each remaining remote, including working ones.
- 6Turn the ignition off and test the remotes.
Key programming
If your Dodge has a transponder key, you can add a new one yourself when you already have two working keys.
Before you start
- Two working (programmed) keys
- Your new, cut key
- 1Insert the first programmed key and turn the ignition to ON. Wait about 3 seconds, turn OFF, and remove the key.
- 2Within 15 seconds, insert the second programmed key and turn to ON. After about 10 seconds the immobilizer warning light comes on and you'll hear a tone. Turn OFF and remove the key.
- 3Within 50 seconds, insert the new key and turn to ON. After about 10 seconds you'll hear a tone and the immobilizer light stays on for 3 seconds — programming is complete.
- 4To add more keys, repeat from step 1 for each one.
Tips & troubleshooting
- Non-transponder key? No programming needed — just have the blade cut by a locksmith or dealer and it'll start the engine.

2002 Dodge Stratus key fob battery
Your 2002 Dodge Stratus key fob uses a CR2032 3V lithium coin cell. A fresh one typically lasts 3–5 years.
Find CR2032 batteries on AmazonHow to replace the battery
- 1 Find the seam or small slot on the edge of the remote.
- 2 Twist a coin or small flathead in the slot to split the case open.
- 3 Remove the old coin cell and note the + side.
- 4 Fit the new battery with the + side matching, then close the case.
- 5 Press a button to confirm the LED lights, then test at the car.
Battery tips
- Use a fresh, name-brand 3V lithium cell — bargain cells drain quickly.
- Try not to touch both faces of the new battery; skin oils shorten its life.
- If the remote still doesn't work after a new battery, it may need re-syncing or programming.
