2013 Nissan Sentra Key Fob Programming

Updated 2026 Programming, battery & replacement fob

You can program a 2013 Nissan Sentra key fob yourself in a few minutes using a working key or remote, no dealer visit needed. Follow the steps below, then check the battery and the correct replacement fob (with FCC ID and part number) if you need a new one.

Remote / key fob programming

You can program Nissan remote-head keys yourself by cycling the key in the ignition. Have every remote with you — any you don't program will stop working. (This won't work on vehicles with push-button or twist-knob ignition.)

Before you start

  • A remote-head key (not push-button/twist ignition)
  • Every remote (any not programmed now will go inactive)
  1. 1Close and lock all doors using the power-lock switch on the driver's door.
  2. 2Insert the key into the ignition (don't turn it) and pull it out — at least 6 times within 10 seconds, about one second apart, until the hazard lights flash. It can take 10–12 tries; pull the key fully out each time.
  3. 3Insert the key and turn it to ACC.
  4. 4Within 5 seconds, press LOCK once on the remote. The hazards flash. (Press it only once.)
  5. 5For each additional remote: unlock then lock the doors with the driver's-door switch, and within 5 seconds press LOCK on the next remote. Repeat for every remote, including working ones.
  6. 6Turn the key to OFF, remove it, unlock the doors with the switch, and open the driver's door. Test all remotes.

Key programming

Professional programming required

This key fob can't be programmed with a do-it-yourself procedure. The vehicle needs a diagnostic tool connected to its OBD port to pair a new fob, so a replacement has to be set up by an automotive locksmith or a dealer.

Order the correct replacement fob below — match the FCC ID on your current fob first — then have a local automotive locksmith or the dealer program it to your vehicle.

2013 Nissan Sentra key fob battery

Your 2013 Nissan Sentra key fob uses a CR2025 3V lithium coin cell. A fresh one typically lasts 3–5 years.

Find CR2025 batteries on Amazon

How to replace the battery

  1. 1 Slide the release latch and pull the metal emergency key out of the fob.
  2. 2 Use that key (or a coin) to pry the two halves apart at the seam.
  3. 3 Lift out the old coin cell — note which side faces up.
  4. 4 Drop in the new battery the same way (printed + side usually faces the back cover).
  5. 5 Press the case back together until it clicks, then test lock/unlock and push-to-start.

Battery tips

  • Use a fresh, name-brand 3V lithium cell — bargain cells drain quickly.
  • Even with a dead fob battery you can usually still start the car by holding the fob against the start button — check your owner's manual.
  • If the fob still won't work after a new battery, it may need re-syncing or programming.
