2010 Nissan Versa Key Fob Programming

Updated 2026 Programming, battery & replacement fob

You can program a 2010 Nissan Versa key fob yourself in a few minutes using a working key or remote, no dealer visit needed. Follow the steps below, then check the battery and the correct replacement fob (with FCC ID and part number) if you need a new one.

Remote / key fob programming

If your Nissan uses a proximity (smart) key, it can't be programmed at home — an automotive locksmith or dealer must do it. If it uses a remote-head key (a key blade with the buttons built in), follow the steps below. Have every remote with you, since any you don't program will stop working.

Before you start

  • A remote-head key, not a proximity/smart key
  • Every remote (any not programmed now will go inactive)
  1. 1Close and lock all doors using the power-lock switch on the driver's door.
  2. 2Insert the key into the ignition (don't turn it) and pull it out — at least 6 times within 10 seconds, about one second apart, until the hazard lights flash. It can take 10–12 tries; pull the key fully out each time.
  3. 3Insert the key and turn it to ACC.
  4. 4Within 5 seconds, press LOCK once on the remote. The hazards flash. (Press it only once.)
  5. 5For each additional remote: unlock then lock the doors with the driver's-door switch, and within 5 seconds press LOCK on the next remote. Repeat for every remote, including working ones.
  6. 6Turn the key to OFF, remove it, unlock the doors with the switch, and open the driver's door. Test all remotes.

Key programming

On these Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep vehicles you can add a new key yourself if you already have two working keys. Vehicles from 2010 and newer must be done by an automotive locksmith or dealer.

Before you start

  • Two working (programmed) keys
  • Your new key, already cut
  1. 1Insert the first programmed key and turn the ignition to ON. Wait about 3 seconds, turn OFF, and remove the key.
  2. 2Within 15 seconds, insert the second programmed key and turn to ON. After about 10 seconds the immobilizer warning light comes on and you'll hear a tone. Turn OFF and remove the key.
  3. 3Within 50 seconds, insert the new key and turn to ON. After about 10 seconds you'll hear a tone and the immobilizer light stays on for 3 seconds — programming is complete.
  4. 4To add more keys, repeat from step 1 for each one.

Tips & troubleshooting

  • If your vehicle had an ignition recall performed, DIY programming won't be available.
  • Some 2009-and-newer Dodge Ram trucks need dealer programming — check with your dealer if you have one.

2010 Nissan Versa key fob battery

Your 2010 Nissan Versa key fob uses a CR2025 3V lithium coin cell. A fresh one typically lasts 3–5 years.

Find CR2025 batteries on Amazon

How to replace the battery

  1. 1 Slide the release latch and pull the metal emergency key out of the fob.
  2. 2 Use that key (or a coin) to pry the two halves apart at the seam.
  3. 3 Lift out the old coin cell — note which side faces up.
  4. 4 Drop in the new battery the same way (printed + side usually faces the back cover).
  5. 5 Press the case back together until it clicks, then test lock/unlock and push-to-start.

Battery tips

  • Use a fresh, name-brand 3V lithium cell — bargain cells drain quickly.
  • Even with a dead fob battery you can usually still start the car by holding the fob against the start button — check your owner's manual.
  • If the fob still won't work after a new battery, it may need re-syncing or programming.
