Mazda Key Fob Programming

Mazda is one of the easier makes to do yourself. 119 of the 129 Mazda model years we cover have an onboard procedure. On cars without Smart Entry, you can program a remote from the driver's seat with no tools. Adding a key takes two keys that already start the engine. The B-Series pickups and the Tribute use Ford's procedures instead. The MPV and 3 Sport need a pro. The CR1616 and CR2032 cover most Mazda fobs.

Choose your Mazda model for programming steps, the battery it uses, and the correct replacement fob with FCC ID and part number — 129 model years across 18 models.

A brass dot marks models with verified replacement-fob data (FCC ID + part number).

Can you program a Mazda key fob yourself?

On 119 of the 129 model years we cover (92%). The rest need a locksmith or dealer. Mazda uses 4 different onboard procedures:

Locksmith or dealer only: 3 Sport (2012–2014); MPV (2004–2006).

What battery does a Mazda key fob take?

Mostly the CR1616, which covers 50 of 129 model years. Mazda also uses the CR2032, CR2025 and CR1620, so check your model and year before you buy. A plain chip key has no battery at all.
