Buick Century and Regal Remote Programming

Updated 2026 9 vehicles 2001–2005

This procedure covers 9 Buick vehicles from 2001 to 2005. Check that yours is listed below, then follow the steps.

Need the fob itself?

Pick your vehicle to see replacement fobs on Amazon. Match the FCC ID on your old fob before you buy.

Not sure which fob is yours? Find your year below for the exact FCC ID and part number.

On the Buick Century and Regal you can program remotes yourself by holding the door's Unlock switch while cycling the key. Reprogram every remote, including working ones.

Before you start

  • All remote transmitters for the vehicle
  1. 1Close the vehicle door.
  2. 2Turn the ignition to ON then back to OFF (ON is just shy of starting, engine not cranking).
  3. 3Remove the key from the ignition.
  4. 4Press and hold UNLOCK on the driver's-door switch — keep holding until step 8.
  5. 5Insert the key into the ignition (don't turn it) and remove it.
  6. 6Insert the key again (don't turn it) and remove it.
  7. 7Insert the key a third time (don't turn it) and leave it in.
  8. 8Release the Unlock switch. Three chimes confirm you're in programming mode.
  9. 9Press and hold LOCK and UNLOCK together on the first remote until the vehicle beeps twice (about 15 seconds).
  10. 10Repeat for all remaining remotes, including working ones, then remove the key and test.

Which fob does your vehicle take?

These steps program a fob to your car — they can't tell you which fob to buy, and one that isn't the right part for your vehicle will not pair no matter how carefully you follow them. Find your vehicle below: tap your year for the exact fob it takes — FCC ID, OE part number and battery — or "Shop fobs" to browse replacements for that model.
