Chrysler and Dodge Add a Key With Two Working Keys
Updated 2026 148 vehicles 1998–2014
This procedure covers 148 Chrysler, Dodge and Nissan vehicles from 1998 to 2014. Check that yours is listed below, then follow the steps.
Need the fob itself?
Pick your vehicle to see replacement fobs on Amazon. Match the FCC ID on your old fob before you buy.
Not sure which fob is yours? Find your year below for the exact FCC ID and part number.
On these Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep vehicles you can add a new key yourself if you already have two working keys. Vehicles from 2010 and newer must be done by an automotive locksmith or dealer.
Before you start
- Two working (programmed) keys
- Your new key, already cut
- 1Insert the first programmed key and turn the ignition to ON. Wait about 3 seconds, turn OFF, and remove the key.
- 2Within 15 seconds, insert the second programmed key and turn to ON. After about 10 seconds the immobilizer warning light comes on and you'll hear a tone. Turn OFF and remove the key.
- 3Within 50 seconds, insert the new key and turn to ON. After about 10 seconds you'll hear a tone and the immobilizer light stays on for 3 seconds — programming is complete.
- 4To add more keys, repeat from step 1 for each one.
Tips & troubleshooting
- If your vehicle had an ignition recall performed, DIY programming won't be available.
- Some 2009-and-newer Dodge Ram trucks need dealer programming — check with your dealer if you have one.
Which fob does your vehicle take?
These steps program a fob to your car — they can't tell you which fob to buy, and one that isn't the right part for your vehicle will not pair no matter how carefully you follow them. Find your vehicle below: tap your year for the exact fob it takes — FCC ID, OE part number and battery — or "Shop fobs" to browse replacements for that model.
